Institute of Electrophysics, Ural Branch of RAS

The Institute of Electrophysics was founded in November 1986 by a group of scientists led by academician Gennady Andreyevich Mesyats , who arrived in Yekaterinburg (at that time Sverdlovsk) from the city of Tomsk . This group began work on powerful pulsed technology, a new direction in physical research in the Urals . This direction first appeared at the Institute of High Current Electronics in Tomsk . Later, leading scientists from other research institutes in Moscow and other cities were invited to work at the institute.

The staff of the Institute currently includes more than 200 people, including 107 researchers. In addition to the scientists mentioned above, currently the Institute has 21 Doctors of Sciences and 55 Candidates of Sciences.

The Department of Electrophysics was founded in 1987 on the initiative of the First Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Lebedev Physical Institute and Scientific Director of the Institute of Electrophysics, Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, State Prizes of the USSR and Russia Gennady Andreyevich Mesyat. He was the first head of the department.

The department is preparing in the direction 210100 - Electronics and Microelectronics. Specialist qualification: Bachelor of Engineering and Technology (4 years) and Master of Engineering and Technology (2 years).

Students throughout the entire period of study carry out scientific research together with leading scientists of the Institute of Electrophysics, which is the base enterprise of the department. Leading students of the IEF are involved in lecturing students. In addition to the IEF, students undergo practical training at UOMZ, UECC, RFNC and other enterprises. After graduation, the main places of work are academic institutions, enterprises of the Ministry of Atomic Energy and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

The department annually holds a competition for the best research work of students with a prize money fund. A scholarship of A.A. was established for the best students of the department Vorobyov. Studying at the Department of Electrophysics is not easy, but interesting and prestigious. Experts in this field have fascinating prospects for participating in research, development and implementation of high technology in the industry.
