FIBA Champions Cup 1958

The 1958 Champions Cup is the debut draw of the strongest basketball club tournament among men's teams. Three years after the founding of the European Champions Cup , a similar tournament for basketball teams was held under the auspices of the FIBA . The first winner was the Soviet club SKA (Riga) in the final defeating the Sofia Academician . The tournament attracted great attention and met all expectations, as a result, over time, the Champions Cup turned into one of the strongest club tournaments in the world.

Interesting Facts

The first matches in the history of the European Cup were to be the games of teams from Syria and Lebanon, however, due to the failure of the Lebanese team, both games did not take place.
As a result, the first game in the history of the European Cup was the match Royal Anderlecht (Brussels) - Etzella (Ettelbruck), held in Belgium on February 22, 1958.
The victory of Riga SKA in the Champions Cup was one of the first in a series of international successes of European basketball legends - coach Alexander Yakovlevich Gomelsky and center Janis Krumins .
