In 1589, Jacob VI presented the palace as a wedding gift to his bride Anna the Danish . They had three children in this palace, including the future English King Charles I , who, however, did not favor Dunfermlin with his attention. His successor, Charles II, visited the dilapidated ancestral palace only once.
After the expulsion of the Stuarts, the palace began to collapse, and already in 1708 it stood without a roof. By the XIX century only the picturesque ruins remained from it.
