Biography
Father Fortune was the founder of the Cassius family. Since Fortune was the only sons of Cassius, who bore the name common to Christians (Fortune is an Arabized form of the Latin name Fortunis ), historians believe that he was the eldest son and was born before his father converted to Islam in 714. After the death of his father, Fortune became his heir as the head of the family Banu Kasi, having received the patrimonial possessions - Arnedo or Borhu .
The facts of the biography of Fortuna ibn Qasi are reported only by later documents from the Muslim part of the Iberian Peninsula. Almost 100 years after the life of Fortuna, in his letter, written in 844 to his grandson, Musa II ibn Musa , the emir of Cordoba Abd ar-Rahman II mentioned the marriage of Fortuna ibn Kasi with Aisha, on the one hand - the granddaughter of one of the Arab conquerors of Spain Musa Ibn Nusayr , on the other - the daughter of the second marriage of the widow king Rodegot of the Visigoths [1] . Emir emphasized that Aisha was a direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad and that this relationship elevated her descendants among other subjects of the Emir and brought Banu Kasi among the most distinguished Muslim families of the Iberian Peninsula. Historical chronicles also mention the appointment of Fortuna ibn Kasi Wali Zaragoza, but the exact dates of this rule by modern historians have not yet been established, and some historians question the very fact of the appointment of Fortune to this position.
Arab genealogies are aware of two sons of Fortuna ibn Kasi: Musa I ibn Fortune , the heir of his father as the head of the family Banu Kasi, and Zahir.
