Biography
Started as an actor ( 1946 ). He worked as an assistant director for Andre Barsak in the famous Parisian Atelier Theater. In 1976 he created his own troupe Les Ateliers Contemporains . He taught at the National Conservatory of Theater Arts ( 1981 - 1986 ).
Directing
He staged plays by Arrabal , Vedekind , Vitkevich , Duras , Durrenmatt , Kleist , Lenz , Lorca , Pinter , Pirandello , N. Sarrot , Strindberg , Handke , B. Strauss and others, from Russian authors - Chekhov , V. Slavkin .
He turned to the plays of modern Norwegian playwrights: Juna Fosse - Variations on the theme of death , Melancholy I , Arne Lugre ( A man without a goal ). Among his performances is “Psychosis” based on the play of Sarah Kane , with Isabelle Huppert in the main and only role. In 1999 , the play “Someone Is Coming Soon” was staged - a paraphrase of Meterlink's plots; as well as Variations on the Theme of Death. Often creates performances based on the works of contemporary poets ( A. Meshnik , Ch. Reznikoff and others).
One of his most notable works of recent years is the staging of the poem by Fernando Pessoa Oda to the sea at the Avignon Festival ( 2009 ; Grand Theater Prize of the Society of Critics, 2010 ). In 2010, he directed the drama Brume de Dieu based on the novel by Tarja Vesos Birds .
He also refers to opera productions ( R. Wagner , A. Onegger , L. Berio ).

Author of books Lost Spaces ( Espaces Perdus , 1998 ), Order of the Dead ( L'Ordre des Morts , 1999 ), State of Uncertainty ( L'Etat d'incertitude , 2002 ).
Recognition
Laureate of a number of national theater awards. His search is dedicated to the documentary Claude Reguy, the burn of the world ( 2005 ).
