Biography and career
Neil Jordan was born February 25, 1950 in the county of Sligo , Ireland in the family of a professor and artist. In his youth, he played the guitar, piano and saxophone. He studied at St. Paul's College in Dublin . And after graduating from the University of Dublin in the course of the history of Ireland and English literature , Jordan publishes a short story collection entitled “A Night in Tunisia” ( 1976 ) and writes the novel “The Past” ( 1980 ).
Jordan begins his film career as a co-author of the script for the movie Excalibur by John Burman .
In 1982, Jordan's debut film, Angel, was released, a crime thriller in its own script.
The “black” adaptation of the fairy tale about Little Red Riding Hood “ In the company of wolves ” that came out brings Jordan several awards from the London Society of Film Critics ( English London Critics Circle ) and international recognition.
The love-crime drama "Mona Lisa" again brings Jordan cinematic awards: participation in the main competition of the Cannes Film Festival , an Oscar nomination and many prestigious awards for the lead actor Bob Hoskins .
In the wake of success, Jordan makes two comedies with stars of the first magnitude in Hollywood - “ Higher Spirits ” ( “Spirits” ) and “ We Are Not Angels ”.
Returning to England , Jordan makes a drama about the teenagers “ Miracle ”, which did not have much success at film festivals.
Released in 1992, the movie " Cruel Game " ( "Outrageous Game" ) receives a brilliant praise from critics, and Neil Jordan receives an Academy Award for his script for the film. He also earns an Oscar nomination in the Best Director category.
In 1994, Neil Jordan's mystical drama Interview with the Vampire was released, which later became a cult. The main roles in the film were played by Brad Pitt , Tom Cruise and Kirsten Dunst . In 1996, Jordan released the film “ Michael Collins ” starring Liam Neeson . Jordan received the Venice Film Festival Award for directing paintings. From 1997 to 2002, feature films “The Butcher Boy,” “Dreams,” “ The End of the Novel, ” and “The Good Thief,” by Neil Jordan, were released. For his work on the film “ The End of the Novel, ” Jordan earned a Golden Globe Award nomination .
In 2005, the comedy drama “ Breakfast on Pluto ” by Neil Jordan with Cillian Murphy in the title role was released. The film received the nomination of the Berlin Film Festival in the category "Best Film".
