Biography

Michelle Marie Clapared was born on August 28, 1774 in Gignac (department of Hero ), in 1792 he joined the army as a volunteer, participated in almost all the wars of the revolution . He distinguished himself in the Alpine campaign and was promoted to captain. In the Italian campaign, Clapared commanded a battalion.

On October 28, 1801, Clapared entered the headquarters of General Leclerc during an expedition to San Domingo , in 1804 he fought on the Antilles and was promoted to brigadier general. May 20, 1805 returned to France.

On October 10, 1805, he led the 1st Brigade of the Süsche Infantry Division of the 5th Army Corps of the Great Army , and took part in the Austrian campaign of 1805 . He distinguished himself under Ulm and Austerlitz . In the Prussian campaign of 1806, he was at the battles of Saalfeld , Jena and Pultusk , and was wounded during the last battle. After the Peace of Tilsit on October 8, 1808 he received the rank of division general.

In 1808 he went to Spain. January 11, 1809 was appointed governor of Valladolid.

On February 16, 1809 he was recalled to France, and took up the formation of the 1st combined grenadier division in the Udino Corps in Strasbourg . In the campaign of 1809, Clapared covered himself with fame at the battle of Ebersberg , where 7,000 men fought for three hours against 30,000 Austrians, for which Napoleon was especially thanked in the Bulletin of the Great Army . Clapared showed brilliant talents also at Essling , where he was wounded. June 30 led the 1st Infantry Division in the Dalmatian Army. He distinguished himself at Wagram . He was wounded under Znaim. In October he became commandant of Ljubljana and the 1st military district of the Illyrian provinces . November 22 received a vacation.

In August 1810, Clapared was at the Iberian Theater, where he also repeatedly took part in affairs with the enemy ; for distinction, he was awarded the Order of the Legion of Honor . On August 28, 1810 he was appointed commander of the 2nd Infantry Division, and from September 10 - the 1st Infantry Division of the 9th Army Corps of the Spanish Army. On April 9, 1811, he headed the 2nd Infantry Division of the 5th Army Corps of the Southern Army . September 10, 1811 received permission to leave Spain, and in November left Seville.

February 21, 1812 was enlisted in the Great Army. In 1812, Klapared was in Russia , where on March 8 he commanded the 4th Infantry Division of the Vistula Legion , fought with the Russians at Borodino , was wounded during the crossing of the Berezina , and returned his command and returned to France.

Following this, on June 25, 1813, Clapared became commander of the 43rd Infantry Division of the Mainz Observation Corps. On August 7, his division became part of the 14th Army Corps . He was wounded on August 22 at Gisshubel. He participated in the defense of Dresden, and was captured after the surrender of the city. He was held in prison in Brno.

June 1, 1814 returned to France.

After Napoleon’s removal to Elba, Clapared joined the Bourbons , during the Hundred Days remained in the shadows, and upon the return of Louis XVIII he was appointed peer (March 5, 1819) and commandant of Paris .

He died in Montpellier on October 23, 1842.
