History
In the early 1920s, in the city of Fier , sports communities began to form, whose members were involved in football as well. The first official match in Fier was played on July 17, 1924 , when the local team played with the team of the city of Vlore .
The club was founded in the summer of 1925 under the name of Apolonia CS, as a memory of the nearby ancient Greek city, the stylized ruins of which are also depicted on the club’s emblem on a red background. The club's traditional colors are white and green.
In 1928, the club became professional, and therefore its structure was reorganized.
In 1946, Apolonia again became multisports, however, football was still the most popular sport in the club.
In 1958, a new stadium, Loni Papuchiu, was built in the city with a capacity of 6,000 spectators, which was intended exclusively for holding club football matches.
The most successful period in the history of Apolonia was the period from 1985 to 1990 , when the team was led by Wangel Tsapo, under whose leadership Apolonia achieved its highest success in the national championship , taking 3rd place in 1989 , which allowed the club to participate in the UEFA Cup , in which, however, the team lost in the first round to the French Auxerre with a total score of 0: 8.
In 1992, the football section was separated from the sports club, becoming a separate organization led by Kocho Kokedima.
In 1997, the revival of the club began, in that season the team took 5th place in the championship. The club played a little worse in the league next season, taking only the 7th, however, that year, for the first time in the history of “Apolonia” reached the final of the Albania Cup , in which it was able to win a historic first victory, having won against the club “ Lushnya ” with a score of 1 : 0. After this match, the relations between the fans of the two clubs began to have a fundamental character, and the games between them became derby .
This was followed by a recession, which eventually led to Apolonia relegation to the Second Division in the 2002/03 season, where the team stayed for several years, returning to the Super League only at the end of the 2005/06 season, however, in the next season the team took last place in table and again flew, but this time only for 1 year, returning already at the end of the 2007/08 season.
At the end of the 2008/09 season, Apollonia managed to stay in the Super League, taking 8th place.
