Interesting Facts
- For the first time, the World Cup was to be held in the home country of hockey - in Winnipeg and Montreal . At the IIHF Congress, held in Switzerland in July 1969, Canadians were allowed to use nine hockey players from lower league teams in the tournament. NHL players could not play. But already in January 1970, under pressure from the IOC and its president Avery Brendj , the IIHF again imposed a ban on the participation of professionals in world championships. Then the representatives of the Canadian Hockey Federation announced that they were refusing to hold the World Cup and leave the world hockey movement. Championship urgently moved to Stockholm , where the previous world championship. The resulting vacancy was filled by the Polish team.
- This championship was the first in which helmets became mandatory for all hockey players [1] .
