At the time of the Old Testament, the small settlement of Sarepta, located almost in the middle of the road between the cities of Sidon and Tire , belonged first to the first, and then to the second. In the IX century BC. Oe., at the time of the prophet Elijah , Sarepta was ruled by the Phoenician (Hanane) Sidon, where the gods Baal and Astarte were worshiped.
Today, on the site of the former village of Sarepta, only remnants of ancient buildings and tombstones are preserved. The modern city has moved somewhat, and is called Sarafand.
