Play career
Slavisha Yokanovich began his career at the club of one of the lowest leagues of the Yugoslavian championship “ Novi Sad ” in 1985, three years later he moved to “ Vojvodina ”, in which he debuted in the First League. In the first season in the new team, Jokanovich, who quickly won a place at the heart of the club, won the Yugoslav championship, and then participated in the Champions Cup , in which the club lost in the very first round to the Hungarian Honved . In the summer of 1990, Yokanovich moved to Partizan , with this club he won the Yugoslavia Cup and the national championship.
In 1993, Yokanovich joined the Spanish club Real Oviedo . On October 3, he made his debut as a member of the club in a match with Sevilla Examples . In "Oviedo" Jokanovich spent two seasons in which his club twice occupied the 9th place in the championship. In the summer of 1995, Yokanovich moved to Tenerife , where he became the leader of the team that took the highest 5th place in its history in Spain. The following season, Jokanovich became the team's top scorer, scoring 10 goals. For Tenerife Jokanovich spent three seasons, in the latter of which the club took 19th place and went to the second Spanish division.
After departing from Examples, Tenerife sold some of its players. Yokanovich, who joined the Deportivo La Coruña club, which Yugoslav made his debut on August 29 in a match with his former Oviedo team, was also sold. At the end of the season, the club celebrated its first ever victory in the Spanish Championship, while Yokanovich himself became an important team member after spending 23 matches.
In October 2001, Jokanovich was bought by the English Chelsea , who paid £ 1.7 million for the transfer of a football player. Already on October 21, he made his debut as part of Londoners who defeated the Coventry City club with a score of 6: 1. However, in the course of the season Jokanovich often found himself on the bench, having spent 19 games, of which 12 times he came on as a substitute. The following season, Chelsea was replaced by the head coach, but this did not help Yokanovich, who did not become a player of the base. In 2002, Yokanovich left Chelsea and moved to Murcia , where he ended his career in 2004.
Coaching career
After completing his football career, Jokanovic lived for several years in Madrid . In September 2007, he joined the coaching staff of the Atletico Pinto club, but three months later he became the head coach of Partizan , separated from his family: his family (wife and three children) remained in Madrid [2] . In the first season, Partizan won the championship and the Serbian Cup , and then was recognized as the best football coach of Serbia, but refused the award because of the poor performance of the club in the group stage of the UEFA Cup . In 2009, Yokanovich again made a double, becoming the first coach in the history of the club, who achieved two consecutive victories in the championship and the national cup.
