Ashot Arakelovich Sarkisov (born January 30, 1924 , Tashkent ) is a Russian scientist and military figure, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (1994), vice admiral , laureate of the RF Government Prize in the field of science and technology (2013).

Biography
Born in the family of an employee (father - Sarkisov Arakel Ovanesovich, Armenian, mother - Evgenia Bogdanovna). In 1941, he graduated from a Russian high school in Tashkent and entered the F.E.Dzerzhinsky Higher Naval Engineering School. After an accelerated 2-month combined arms training, he fought on the Karelian front . He participated in the battles for the liberation of the cities of the Soviet Arctic and Norway . [one]
In March 1945, the rank of senior lieutenant was recalled from the front; enrolled in the listener of the F.E. Dzerzhinsky Higher Naval Engineering School , who graduated with honors in the rank of captain-lieutenant in 1950 . At the All-Union competition of scientific works of students of higher military educational institutions in 1949 received the first prize. In 1951 he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Leningrad State University with an external degree .
From 1950 to 1954 he served on the ships of the Baltic Fleet as the flagship mechanical engineer of the torpedo boat brigade. In 1954 he entered the postgraduate studies of the F.E. Dzerzhinsky Higher Naval Engineering School, defended his thesis. In the rank of captain of the 2nd rank, he was appointed a teacher at the Sevastopol Higher Naval Engineering School (SVVMIU), in which he served for a total of 27 years. He lectured on the course "Ship nuclear power plants." In 1959 he was appointed head of the first in the system of military educational institutions of the Department of nuclear reactors and submarine steam generators . In November 1971 he was appointed head of the school, which was considered the main base for training engineers for the Soviet nuclear submarine fleet . In 1983, he was appointed deputy head of the A. A. Grechko Naval Academy for Research (Leningrad); In 1985 - Chairman of the Scientific and Technical Committee of the Navy. He retired in 1989 .
The title of rear admiral was awarded in 1971 ; the title of vice admiral was awarded in 1978 .
Lives and works in Moscow.
Scientific activity
He defended his doctoral dissertation in 1968 . In 1969 awarded the title of professor . Elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the specialty “Energy (including Nuclear Energy)” (1981); He was elected a full member of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the specialty "Energy" (1994).
The main works relate to the reliability and safety of ship nuclear energy: more than 200 scientific works (including 6 monographs), 17 inventions. The author of pioneering work on non-stationary and emergency modes of operation of ship nuclear power plants.
Chairman of the Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation on the problems of the fleet and shipbuilding (since 1985).
Organizer and co-chair of the Russian side of international scientific conferences on radiation safety in 1955, 1957 and 2004.
He led the study “Development of a strategic master plan for the disposal of decommissioned Russian nuclear fleet and rehabilitation of radiation-hazardous facilities of its infrastructure in the North-West of the Russian Federation” in 2004 by order of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development .
