Group History
The unusual name Three Dog Night appeared after vocalist Danny Hatton and his then girlfriend Jane Fairchild read in a magazine that Australian Aborigines spend cold nights in dugouts in an embrace with dingo dogs; the night when three dogs are required for heating is considered especially cold [1] [2] .
TDN almost did not write their own songs, but gained a reputation as masters of cover versions. In particular, the hits they performed were songs by Harry Nilsson (“One”), Randy Newman (“Mama Told Me Not to Come”), Laura Niro (“Eli's Coming”), Paul Williams (“An Old Fashioned Love Song”, “Out in the Country”), Russ Ballard of Argent (“Liar”), Hoyt Exton (“Joy to the World” and “Never Been To Spain”), Elton John and Bernie Topina (“Lady Samantha” and “Your Song” "), John Hyatt (" Sure As I'm Sittin 'Here "), Leo Sayer (" The Show Must Go On "). Elton John later said that the start of his own take-off to pop-stars was solely due to a TDN cover of "Your Song".
Feeling that interest in them was dwindling, Three Dog Night gave a farewell concert at the Los Angeles Greek Theater on July 26, 1976 and announced the breakup. However, already in 1981, a reunion took place, in which all members of the first composition took part with the exception of Joe Shermi . Often changing the composition, the group continued to tour and recorded from time to time. In 2000, Three Dog Night were awarded an honorary place in the Vocal Group Hall of Fame [1] .

Interesting
DJ Tridognight is a character in the computer game Fallout 3 . The same story that gave the name to the group tells about its pseudonym. All this is in good agreement with the general retro style, in which all the games in the series are sustained.
