Mamadzhan Mukhitdinov ( May 5, 1927 , Namangan - February 8, 2002 ) - Uzbek , formerly Soviet chess player , leader of the Soviet chess movement, historian of chess; USSR master of sports ( 1956 ), honored coach of the Uzbek SSR ( 1965 ), international referee ( 1987 ). Chairman ( 1961 - 1982 ), Deputy Chairman (since 1983 ) of the Chess Federation of Uzbekistan. Editor of chess departments in the newspaper "Soviet Uzbekistan" (since 1956 ) and in the journal "Gulistan" (since 1967 ). Candidate of Historical Sciences.

Having won in 1956 a qualifying match against V. Solovyov - 7½: 5½ (+3 —1 = 9), he became the first master of sports among the Uzbek chess players; 4-time champion of the Uzbek SSR ( 1952 , 1954 , 1957 , 1965) and 3-time champion of the USSR among rural chess players ( 1960 , 1962 , 1968 ). Member of the 2-4th Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR ( 1959-1967 ). In international tournaments of Asian countries - Tashkent (1959) and Ashgabat (1961) —2nd place. He is the author of many books on the history of chess in Central Asia.
