Golikov, Vladimir Mitrofanovich

Vladimir Golikov was the son of a craftsman at a Moscow educational home. He entered the law faculty of Moscow University , which he graduated in 1898. Then he worked as an assistant to a sworn solicitor, practiced law in Moscow. ^[one]

Poems by Vladimir Golikov was first published in 1896 in the journal Russian Thought , a notably imitative poem Althea (1896), written on the motive of Edgar Allan Poe 's poem Raven :

In the tower of the ancient abbey, members of the knighthood,
We sat and were silent near the Round Table.
A crimson light spilled over the harsh surroundings
Through the patterned edges of reddish glass;
The light was crimson, the rustle was strange ...
We sat and were silent near the Round table ...

Edgar Poe and Charles Baudelaire became the landmarks of Vladimir Golikov in the world of poetry.

In 1900, Golikov released his first poetry collection, with the simple title “ Poems, ” sponsored by P. S. Eibushitz, who wrote a preface to it. Soon followed by a second collection of poems by the young poet - "Night Thoughts" (1902).

In 1904-1905, Golikov served in Kutaisi and Baku .

In 1907, Vladimir Mitrofanovich published the third collection of poems: “Blood and tears; The Triumph of Death and Evil: Little Poems ”, which received a restrained and encouraging response from Nikolai Gumilyov :

The author, as a poet, is obviously still young, his talent is undeniable, but it is impossible to consider him finally determined: the fluctuations between old and new techniques of creativity are sometimes noticeable, his teacher’s poet still owns, and there are many of them. In the book of Mr. Golikov there are “Jokes of Death”, “Ball of the Dead”, “Poem on Bitterness” (“Robber”), and the lonely “Seamstress”, there is a little Baudelaire, a little Edgar Allan Poe, a little Longfellow and a little ... true poetry.

One can only praise the poet for striving for interesting and broad topics, for his beautiful renunciation of gray budyons. But his fulfillment is almost always below his plan, and it is all the more strange that Mr. Golikov studied with such masters of form as Baudelaire and Poe. It would seem that an elementary artistic tact should keep the poet from childish negligence of technology, which is often full of his poems. G. Golikov needs to work a lot and remember that if he pleases us with the originality of his plans, then we have the right to expect from him a meticulous elaboration of details ...

The collection “Blood and Tears,” among other things, included an excellent poetic translation of Po's story “ Silence ”, highly praised by Nikolai Bakhtin for the successfully reproduced manner of the American classic.

Since 1908, Vladimir Golikov collaborated with the Voice of Moscow newspaper, where he published poetic feuilleton, parodies, and travel essays. In 1911-1918 he was published in the St. Petersburg newspaper " Evening Time " and several magazines, published and edited the literary and satirical weekly journal " Goldilocks " (1914).

In 1915, a collection of poems by Vladimir Golikov “I: Songs about Germans and Turks: II: Behind the Rear” was published in St. Petersburg.

There is no information about the fate of Vladimir Golikov after 1918 .
