Tyrant Rogue

The tyrant-robber [2] ( Latin: Legatus leucophaius ) is a species of passerine birds from the tyrannous family ( Tyrannidae ), distinguished into the monotypic genus of tyrant robbers ( Legatus ) [3] . Body length - 15-16.5 cm [4] [5] .

This bird makes a quick, clear sound “u-ty-tit-tit” (this sound lasts about 1 second) or “de-di-di-di”, after which a sharp and clear sound “viyu” periodically follows; sometimes a bird pronounces the sounds “ke-ke-ke-ke-ke-ke-ke” [4] [5] before its typical song.

Subspecies

  • Legatus leucophaius variegatus - from the east of Mexico south to the north and central part of Guatemala , Belize and Honduras [1] ;
  • Legatus leucophaius leucophaius - from Nicaragua south to Panama and Colombia , then east to Venezuela and Guiana , Trinidad and Tabago , and south to Ecuador , Peru , the northwest and central part of Brazil ( Mato Grosso and the north of Rio Grande do Sul ), as well as from the north and east of Bolivia to the central and eastern parts of Paraguay and northern Argentina [1] .
