The province of Sanliurfa occupies an important place among the tourist centers, with its nature, architectural and historical structures.

The administrative center of the province, Sanliurfa, is one of the most important historical and cultural cities of Anatolia. This place is one of the oldest human settlements, it is more than 9000 years ago. In historical sources it is also called " Edessa ". The prophet Abraham was born in this city, Ayyub (see Eyyupneby ) and Jesus Christ lived here.

Harran Valley and the Ancient City

The ancient city of Harran is located 44 km southeast of the city of Sanliurfa . The historian Ibn Sheddad wrote in the 13th century that the prophet Abraham lived in this city several years before moving to Palestine. In this regard, this city is considered the city of the prophet Abraham.

The city of Harran was also considered the holy city of Sabeism .

Ataturk dams are also located here.

Göbekli Tepe Parking

In 2006, German magazine Der Spiegel published an article stating that the ruins of the Garden of Eden, from which Adam and Eve were expelled, are located in the southeastern Turkish province of Sanliurfa on Göbekli Tepe Hill.

Traces of the inscription found in Göbekli Tepe [ specify ] made 11,000 years ago. Probably the first people hunted in Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran, and then settled in Göbekli Tepe and began to cultivate the land here. This is confirmed by previously found remains of temples.

Balyk Lake

Sanliurfu (Urfu) is called the city of the five prophets, in ancient times it was known as Edessa, and according to Turkish Muslim traditions, Urfa is the biblical Ur . It is believed that it was here that the prophet Abraham was born (among the Muslims - the prophet Ibrahim), and that is why a huge number of pilgrims from all over the Muslim world flock to Urfa.

According to legend, Abraham was born at the time of the cruel ruler of Nimrod , who ordered the death of all children born that year. His mother gave birth to him in a cave, and he hid there until ten years old. Then Abraham left the cave and came to his father's house; after that, he began to fight against Nimrod and the idols in the local temple. When Abraham began to break the idols into pieces, Nimrod ordered to seize him and bring him to his castle on the hill and throw him down into the fire. However, by the order of God, “Oh, fire, become cool and friendly for Abraham!” The fire turned into water, and the hot coals into fish.

Carps living in the lake are considered holy, and fishing is prohibited here. There is also the mosque of St. Abraham and the cave where he was born.

Sanliurfa Fortress

To the south of Lake Balyk is the Shanliurfa fortress on the southern slope of Damladzhik Khalil mountain. The eastern, western and southern parts of the city are surrounded by a deep protective moat pierced in the rock. In the northern part of the castle are steep cliffs.

As part of an archaeological excavation project in the town of Haleplibahce near Sanliurfa, mosaics were found with images of the leaders of the Amazons, a smiling virgin, grouse, lions, and images of nature.
