The Communist Party of Slovenia ( Slovenian. Komunistična partija Slovenije , Serbohorv. Communist Party of Slovenia ) is a communist movement subordinate to the Communist Party of Yugoslavia . In 1952, after the Sixth Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, the Communist Party of Slovenia was renamed the Union of Communists of Slovenia ( Slovenian. Zveza komunistov Slovenije , Serbohorv. Savez communist Slovenia ).

27 members of the Ljubljana section of the Yugoslav Social Democratic Party at the congress on March 20-23, 1919 founded the Slovenian Socialist Party. The leader was elected Janko Petrich . In April, the party as a section became part of the Socialist Workers' Party (Communists), based in Belgrade .

In January 1990, the SCS delegation, together with the delegation of the UK IC, left the 14th congress of the Union of Communists of Yugoslavia. Thus, the SCS was separated from the higher party.
In April 1990, the Union of Communists of Slovenia changed its name to the Party of Social Democratic Changes of Slovenia . In 1993, the party was named the United List of Social Democrats , and since 2005 the party has been called the Social Democrats of Slovenia (SDS).
