History
Qualification tournament for the 2014 World Cup
The qualifying stage for the 2014 World Cup was for the team the most successful in history: in the very first match a historic victory was won over the Tonga 2: 1 team . This victory was only the second in official international meetings. In the 2nd round, the team tied with the Cook Islands (1: 1) and kept the chances of reaching the 2nd round. Before the match with Samoa , both teams had the same performance and until the 89th minute everything went by extra time, but the more experienced Samoa team scored the decisive goal in the 90th minute and did not allow the American Samoa team to leave the group. But despite this performance of the national team in 2011 looks impressive: they have risen in the FIFA ranking from 202 to 197 place.
National Coaches
The head coach of the American Samoa national football team since 2007 was a native of England - David Brand. In this post, he was replaced by Rubben Liu, who, in turn, gave way to Abel Lalogafuhais.
In 2011, before the start of the selection for the 2014 World Cup, the team was headed by the famous Dutch coach Thomas Rongen.
