Branko Oblak ( Slovenian. Branko Oblak ; May 27, 1947, Ljubljana , FPRY ) - Yugoslav footballer , midfielder , Slovenian football coach. In November 2003, UEFA was recognized as the best footballer of Slovenia over the past 50 years.

Club

Branko Oblak, a pupil of the club “ Freedom ” Ljubljana , did not marry for the main team and in 1963 moved to the local “ Olympia ” ”, for which he debuted on May 20, 1966 in Belgrade in a principled match with“ Partizan ”, and in which scored two goals, bringing the victory of Olympia 2: 1. In total for Olimpia, the Cloud played 181 matches in the Yugoslav championship and scored 34 goals.

In 1973, Cloud moved to Hajduk from Split , for which he played for two seasons, winning two Yugoslav championships . At the end of the first season at Hajduk, Cloud was taken by Vuyadin Boskov , head coach of the Yugoslav national team, as a player of the main squad at the World Cup , becoming, together with Danilo Popivoda, the first Slovenian to play in the world championships . Cloud had a good tournament and was included in the symbolic team of the World Cup. At the end of the season he was selected as a candidate for the Golden Ball .

In 1975, Cloud signed a two-year contract with the German club Schalke 04 , he helped the team take second place in the Bundesliga , and then for the second time was named a candidate for the title of best European football player. A year after arriving in Germany, Oblak went, together with the national team, to the European Championship , where the Yugoslavs reached the semifinals, losing to Germany in extra time , and then lost the match for third place in Holland . After the tournament, Cloud decided to end his career in the national team.

In the summer of 1977, Cloud moved to Bavaria from Munich , where he played for 3 seasons, in the last of which he won the German championship. After that, Cloud played for various Austrian teams, including Spittal . Finished his career in 1987.

In the Yugoslav national team, Branco Cloud made his debut on May 6, 1970 in a friendly match with the Romanian national team , which ended with the score 0-0. As part of the national team, Petkovic took part in the 1974 World Cup and 1976 European Championship . Petkovich played his last match for the national team in the qualifying match of the 1978 World Cup against the Romanian team on May 8, 1977, that match ended with the defeat of the Yugoslavs with a score of 0: 2. In total, for the national team, Cloud played 46 official matches in which he scored 6 goals. Cloud also played 6 matches for the youth team of Yugoslavia , in which he scored 1 goal [2] .
