Michaelis Hadziyanis ( Hadzhiyanis , Greek Μιχάλης Χατζηγιάννης ; born November 5, 1979, Lefkosia , Cyprus ) is a Greek singer and songwriter , one of the most popular performers of modern Greek pop music [1] . In 2010, Forbes magazine named Hadzianis the 22nd most influential celebrity in Greece [2] .

Youth
Michalis Hadzianis was born in Lefkosia , Cyprus , on November 5, 1979. He studied at the Cyprus College of Music (Royal College of London) in piano, guitar and music theory.
At the age of 15, he took part in the Afetiris music contest in Cyprus , in which he won first place. Subsequently, he also participated in the competition “ Laiki Bank Song Contest ” with the song “I Diki Mou Istoria”, written by Andreas Gerolem , and won first place. In 1995, he participated in the final of the Cypriot national selection for the Eurovision 1995 show with two songs - “Filise me” (written by Andreas Gerolem) and “To Gamma” (written by Leonidas Malenis) - one song took third place and the last - second. That year, Alex Panayi went to a contest in Dublin with the song “Στη φωτιά”.
Michalis began his own musical career in Cyprus, recording three compositions that soon gained platinum status: Senario, O Mihalis Hatzigiannis Traguda Doro Georgiadi and Epafi. He also participated in musical productions in Cyprus called “ Pigmalion ”, in addition to a series of concerts in the capital called “Michalis Hadziyanis, Andreas Gerolemu”. [3]
Musical career
1998-2002: Eurovision and First Albums
In May 1998, he represented Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest , performing the song “Γένεσις” (Birth), written by himself and taking 11th place.
While in Athens , he collaborated with the composer Giorgos Hadzinacios and with the poet Michalis Buboulis in creating the single "Angigma Psychis" ( Russian. Touch of the Soul ), which was released in December 1998 by BMG Greece . This album contained compositions for the eponymous series, which was broadcast on the Greek TV channel ANT1 , and included the hits “Angigma Psychis” and “To Soma pou Zitas”. The album went platinum .
In March 2000, Hadziyanis released his debut album "Paraxeni Giorti" ( Russian. Unusual Holiday ). Many thoughts of various composers and poets contributed to this album, which became one of the hits of that year. The song "Mono Sta Onira" ( Russian. Only in dreams ) occupied the top of the Greek charts for several weeks. And two other songs from this album, “Paraxeni Giorti” and “Ke Tha Hatho”, were no less successful. The album was recognized twice as platinum and became a turning point in the career of a young Greek composer and singer. In November, he began giving concerts in Athens.
In early 2001, he released the single "Den Eho Hrono" ( Russian. I do not have time ). The song soon reached the top of the charts and became platinum, and Michalis first toured all over Greece . Later that year, to the delight of the public, he first performed with the legendary Greek singer Haris Aleksiu .
In the spring of 2002, he released his second solo album “Krifo Fili” ( Russian: Secret Kiss ), which was recognized three times as platinum . This album included a number of hits, such as “Eisai Edo” ( Russian. You are here ), “To S 'Agapo” ( Russian. I love you ), “Horis Anapnoi” ( Russian. Without breathing ), “I Ekdromi” ( Russian . Travel ) and "Kapnos" ( Russian. Fog ). The album cemented his reputation as one of the most successful singer-songwriters and promising artist on the Greek stage. In the summer of 2002, Michalis again toured all over Greece, becoming even more successful than the first. And already in winter, he shared the scene with another Greek star - Dimitra Galani .
2003-2005: Μόνος μου and Ακατάλληλη σκηνή
In 2003, he released the triple platinum mini-album “Monos Mou” ( Russian: Lonely ), which included 5 songs. The song "An Mou Tilefonouses" ( Russian. If you called me ) became a hit, the popularity of which on the air grew from month to month. This song is still one of the most popular Greek ballads of recent times. In the summer, the next tour in Greece took place, which included 63 concerts with fully sold out tickets.
He received three awards from the IFPI 's annual Greek Arion Awards in 2003 , followed by 4 more awards in 2004 , including the "Best Male Performer of the Year" award.
In April 2004, he released his third solo album, Akatallili Skini ( Russian: Inappropriate Scene ), which increased his popularity on the Greek stage. On April 30, 2004, Michalis represented Cyprus at the official ceremony of the Enlargement of the European Union , which took place in Warsaw on the occasion of the ten new members joining the European Union .
In the summer of 2004, Michalis toured Greece again and sang at the closing ceremony of the Athens Summer Olympics . In winter, he made about 100 performances in Athens and Thessaloniki along with the very popular singer Paschalis Terzis .
In the summer of 2005, he again toured Greece on tour, ending with two sold-out and recorded concerts at the Lykavit Theater in Athens. In October, he first visited Australia and gave three concerts. In November, he began performances with Anthony Remos in Athens, which lasted until April 2006.
2006-2008: Φίλοι και εχθροί and 7
In March 2006, he released his first live album , composed of songs recorded on Likavita , with three new songs, “De Fevgo” ( Russian. I’m not leaving ), “Den Eimai Edo Gia Kanena” ( Russian. I’m not here for anyone then ) and "Miazoume" ( Russian. We are alike ), which became hits. This album also contains a DVD with photos of concert scenes and backstage. Later in April he toured Canada and the USA with George Dalaras , and in May he arrived in Thessaloniki, where he performed with Natasha Theodoridou . In the summer he toured Greece with 50 sold out concerts. In August, he released one of his best singles, “Ola i Tipota” ( Russian: All or Nothing ).
In December 2006, he released his fourth studio album “Filoi Kai Ehthri” ( Russian Friends and Enemies ) with a number of hits such as “Na Eisai Ekei” ( Russian Being here ), “Aisthimata” ( Russian Feelings ), “ Heria Psila "( Rus. Hands high ). On December 15, he began performing at the Vox Concert Hall in Athens.
In March 2007, he collaborated with German rock band Reamonn and released a cover duet of their song “Tonight-Simera”, half English, half Greek, the Greek part of the text was written by Eleana Vrahali . This song is included in the re-release of Reamonn's Wish album, as well as the Filoi Kai Ehthri album. Later in June, Michalis released the single “Pio poly” ( Russian. Much stronger ), including the title track and remix of Passion, the duo “Tonight-Simera” and “Heria Psila” (Moscow Electromix). He also began another summer tour of Greece after his performances at Vox, ending in May. In October and November, he toured internationally, staging concerts in Germany , Holland , Switzerland and Belgium . In December, the second concert album “Zontana Sto Likavitto” ( Russian Live Concert in Likavit ) was released, which became platinum in the first week after the start of sales. He also opened another winter season at Vox, this time with Glikiria .
In May 2008, Michalis was scheduled a concert tour in North America with performances in various cities of Canada and the USA, but the tour did not take place entirely due to problems with the US Government and promoters Asteria Productions and Greek Chicago . However, concerts in Chicago , Montreal , New York and Toronto were held as planned. September 30, 2008 Michalis released another single titled "Emeis I Dio San Ena" (Together we are as one), which served as the eve of the new album. October 29, 2008 [4] Hadziyanis released his seventh studio album under the symbolic title “7”. The album became 5x platinum.
2009—2010: Κολάζ and Μιχάλης
In November 2009, the album "7" was included in the set to purchase the newspaper Real News . This version of the album includes an additional song, “Kati Leipi” ( Russian: Something is Missing ), which was later aired on radio stations. At the end of November 2009, Michalis released his eighth studio album “Kolaz” ( Russian Collage ). [5] The album is a cover of popular songs performed by Mimis Plessas , Marios Tokas and Antonis Vardis . [5] The first single from the album is called "Anna", which is a cover of the song by Yannis Karalis. The album was recognized four times platinum . [6]
In mid-2009, Hadzianis released his first English single, “More Than Beatiful” ( Rus. More than Beautiful ), recorded in Germany in collaboration with Universal Music Germany . A video clip for this song was shot in Berlin. A disk with two songs was being prepared for release on April 2, 2010 in Germany, including the English-language version of the song “Heria Psila”, which will be called “Everyone Dance” [7] ; however, Hadziannis changed his mind and thwarted the release [8] .
The release of the English-language studio album “Mihalis” was scheduled for May 2010 [9] , and sales were planned throughout the next months throughout Europe. [10] The release was delayed due to the release of a similar Greek album. The album was released simultaneously in Germany [11] , Switzerland [12] and Austria [13] on August 13, 2010. In Cyprus and Greece, the presentation of the album took place on October 1, 2010 [14] .
In November 2010, Michalis Hadzianis began preparations for the European tour [15] .
2011-2012: Το Καλύτερο Ψέμα, Live 2011 and Θάρρος ή Αλήθεια
December 12 was the release of the new album "Το Καλύτερο Ψέμα" and the single of the same name [16] . On February 13, 2011, the single was officially released under the title “4 Μπαλάντες” ( Russian 4 ballads ) [17] , which included the songs “Αν μΑγαπάς”, “Στην άκρη του Παραδείσου”, and “Φίλα Με” and “Ως δ Ε.
In early April 2011, Michalis Hadzianis released a live album Μιχάλης Χατζηγιάννης Live 2011 , which included songs from the album Το Καλύτερο Ψέμα and the best hits of previous albums [18] . On April 6, the album became available for listening on the singer’s official channel on YouTube [19] .
July 5, 2011 in Petroupolis began the summer tour of the singer in the cities of Greece . The tour ended with concerts on September 5 in Thessaloniki on the stage of the Dasus Theater and September 8 in Athens at the Lykavit Arena [20] .
On December 19, the official presentation of the new studio album “Courage and Truth” ( Greek Θάρρος ή Αλήθεια ) took place [21] . It included 13 songs. The first single, which had the same name "Θάρρος ή Αλήθεια", was presented a little earlier, and on December 8 the shooting of the video for this song ended [22] . The first summer concert of the singer took place on June 29, 2012 in South Coast , I beachVula , songs of the album Θάρρος ή Αλήθεια were performed, as well as well-known hits from previous albums [23] .
In the winter of 2012 - 2013 , Michalis collaborates with Yannis Zuganelis and Sakis Bulas on the stage of Ακτή Πειραιως in the play “Good, Bad, Evil”. This is a unique musical performance that lasts four hours and combines music, singing, drama and political satire. The premiere of the performance took place on November 2, 2012 [24] [25] . Especially for this performance, Hadziynis wrote a song [26] .
December 18, 2012 Platinum Records introduced the new album by Eleana Vrahali “Όλα τα Ναι του κόσμου” [27] . For this album, Michalis Hadzianis recorded the song “Καληνύχτα” [28] . All proceeds from the sale of the album will go to support the association Παιδικά Χωριά SOS Ελλάδος, a charity and non-profit organization that provides assistance to children deprived of the care of their parents, as well as the center for drug addiction treatment Κέντρο Θεραπείας Εξαρνηέέ.
On February 2, 2013, Khadziyis played the last time in the play “Good, Bad, Evil” on the stage of “Ακτή Πειραιώς” [29] [30] . In March 2013, he will take part in the Antipodes Festival in Australia (the largest festival of Greek culture outside Greece ): March 16 in Melbourne , March 17 in Sydney [31] . Both performances are free to the public. Festival organizers call Michalis performances the main event of Antipodes Festival in 2013.
Personal life
In 2009, he married Despina Olympiu , with whom he had previously performed several duets. [32] however, the couple subsequently severed the relationship. The current lover of the singer is the Greek actress Zeta Macripulia [33] .
