Etymology
The name of the river from the Ubykh language is translated as “snow son” ( same (as already ) - snow, k (the contracted form from kua ) - son) or “born of snow”, [1] the origins of which occur on the southern slope of Sakharnaya Mountain, which got its name for the snow cap that it wears when it rains in the winter (at a time when snow melts quickly at neighboring peaks). Another decoding of the toponym Azhek is also possible - “son of a deer” (in Ubykh ( already ) it also means “deer”) or “deer” literally, and the probable semantic translation is “the place where deer live”.
Description
The Azhek River originates on the southern slope of Sakharnaya Mountain and flows into the Sochi River about 20 kilometers from its mouth. Not far from the confluence of the Sochi River, there is the Azhek Falls , which cascades from a height of 9.5 meters in a double cascade (7 m is the lower ledge and 2.5 m is the upper) into the canyon, which is a truncated dome at the place of water fall. Just downstream, just before flowing into the Sochi River, there is another small waterfall (about 3 meters in height). At the river there are also White Rocks (Agvo-Atsky complex).
