James Gilliam , also known as James Kelly, is an English pirate who traded in the Indian Ocean at the end of the 17th century (1690s).

Biography
When James Kelly was born is unknown. The first information about him as a pirate indicates that he was pirating (starting with a sailor on Bachelor's Delight), first off the coast of West Africa under the command of John Williams, then in the Caribbean , off the coast of South America and in the Pacific the ocean with John Cook. In 1680 , along with the pirates Edward Davis , Bartholomew Sharp and John Coxon , Kelly took part in the Pacific expedition.
Kelly then returns to Bachelor's Delight, but as first mate. In 1692 , after the successful capture of the ship "Harmony" ( Eng. Unity ), James Kelly becomes her captain. For some time he piracy off the coast of India, until he is captured, where he is forced to accept Islam.
In 1696, Kelly sailed from Bombay as part of the Mocha crew. Just a week after going to sea, a rebellion occurs on the ship and Robert Calliford becomes captain. When, in 1698 , off the coast of St. Mary’s Island ( English Île Sainte-Marie ), Kalliford meets Captain William Kidd , in the quarrel between them, Kelly takes Kidd’s side and returns home with him [1] , after which sent in search of good luck in the New World .
In 1699, Kelly was arrested in Boston , New England. [2] After he was returned to England , James Kelly was charged with piracy and found guilty by a decision of the Old Bailey court. On sentencing, while in Newgate Prison , Kelly wrote a confession: “The full and truthful disclosure of all the robberies, attacks, and other notorious acts of the famous English pirate, Captain James Kelly” ( Eng. A full and true Discovery of all the Robberies, Pyracies, and other Notorious Actions, of that Famous English Pyrate, Capt. James Kelly ), taking into account his victories with Captain Kidd and other wonderful pirates from all over the world: all the most significant passages of his life at the time of his death [3] . The sentence was carried out, and James Kelly was executed on Saturday July 12, 1700 [4] .
