Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS) is a software product for automating joint work of working groups, created by Zimbra, located in San Mateo , California , USA . In September 2007, the company was bought by Yahoo! [2] , and in January 2010, VMware announced the purchase of Zimbra from Yahoo. In July 2013, it was purchased by Telligent Systems [3] . Among the products for working with e-mail, Zimbra is more similar to Microsoft Exchange [4] , and its capabilities are compared with Google Docs and Google Apps [2] .

ZCS is available in five versions: Open Source Edition, Consumer Edition, Business Email Edition, Standard Edition, Professional Edition. Versions of Consumer Edition and Business Email Edition are available only for hosting providers. ZCS includes client and server software.
Zimbra Web Client is a collaborative web client that supports email and group calendars. The Zimbra Web Client user interface is built using AJAX technology , which provides pop-up prompts, relocatable objects and context menus. Also included are advanced search capabilities and time dependencies. It also includes online documentation, Zimlet modules and a full interface for administrators, written using the Zimbra Ajax Toolkit.
Zimbra Desktop is a collaboration client . It can be used as an email client for any email service that supports the POP and IMAP protocols . It supports synchronization of mail, contacts and calendars with services from Zimbra, Yahoo! Mail and GMail . The client is available on Linux , Windows and Mac OS X platforms .
Zimbra Server - uses several free software projects. He uncovers the SOAP application programming interface in all its functionality and is also an IMAP and POP3 server. The server is available on Linux platforms (Red Hat Enterprise, Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian, Mandriva, SUSE Linux) and Mac OS X.
ZCS is compatible with both proprietary clients, such as Microsoft Outlook and Apple Mail , using proprietary modules, and with Novell Evolution open, so that letters, contacts and calendar objects can be transferred from them to the ZCS server. Zimbra also provides simple two-way synchronization with many mobile devices (Nokia Eseries, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, iPhone with firmware 2.0).
Some features of Zimbra
Global address book - all employees of the enterprise who have a mailbox in the domain are visible.
Calendar and Diary - you can plan tasks and make reminders about them.
Documents - you can store, view and edit directly in your browser (browser).
You can make all resources (address book, or part of it, some directories with letters, documents, calendars, and tasks) available to other users, for example, to everyone within a department.
You can connect external mailboxes. Attention: all letters from external mailboxes will be copied to the Zimbra server!

License Agreement
Zimbra Collaboration System source code (ZCS) is available under a Yahoo! public license. (YPL), derived from the Mozilla Public License (MPL). This license requires that changes made to existing files be distributed as source code under the same license.
