The Rubettes (more often since Rubettes since 1975) is a British pop group assembled in the fall of 1973 from 7 session musicians Wayne Bricherton (head of A&R Polydor ) and his producer and author duo partner Tony Waddington for test recordings of several of his new songs. Finally formed in the beginning of 1974 into a sextet with 2 keyboardists (since 1975 only one of them has remained in the state) The Rubettes used a glam image (costumes in red and white colors and stylish white caps) and performed melodic pop rock with rockabilly elements. The band’s first release, “Sugar Baby Love,” was led by the UK Singles Chart , lasted 5 weeks at the top of the charts, sold more than 3 million copies worldwide and remains the group’s highest commercial achievement [1] [2] .

The Rubettes, which had already turned into a quartet, broke up in 1979, reunited in 1983 (for performances in Germany), and in 2002, after a long pause, they again became the focus of the press due to a lawsuit between members of the first composition for the rights to the name of the group . As a result, two (standing to this day) lineups appeared : Rubettes feat. Alan Williams (which, apart from Williams, also includes John Richardson and Clark, along with former The Kinks keyboardist Mark Hayley) and Rubettes feat. Bill Hurd (Heard with guest musicians).
