The village is located in the Pelagonia basin in the Prilepsko Polye valley, northwest of the city of Prilep .

Content

History

In the 19th century, the village was a settlement in the Ottoman Empire ( Prilepskaya Kaza ), in 1873 in the “Ethnography of the Adrianople townships, the Monastery and Thessaloniki” , published in 1878 in Constantinople, 175 Muslims , 149 Bulgarians and 107 Gypsies inhabiting Layayan village [1] . In 1900, the following people lived here [2] : Christian Bulgarians - 120 people, Muslim Bulgarians ( Pomaks , Torbeshes [3] ) - 320 people. and Roma - 200 people. In 1905, 120 residents of the village of Lezhan were parishioners of the church of the Bulgarian Diocese [4] . On the ethnic map of northwestern Macedonia of 1929, given by Selishchev AM , Lazhani is designated as a village with a Bulgarian and Gypsy population [5] .

Population

According to the 2002 census [6], the population of the village is 1,864 inhabitants, of which

  • Bosnians - 1054 people;
  • Turks - 402 people;
  • Macedonians - 278 people .;
  • Albanians - 108 people;
  • others - 22 people.

Socially Important Objects

In the village there is an eight-year school "them. Mirce Atsev ” [7] and ambulatory [8] .

Culture and Sports

The village holds a folk song festival “Golden Eye” [9] .

In Lazhan there is a football club "Sloga".
