Biological Description

The usn thallus is yellowish-green, of various lengths, often up to 1-2 m, bushy or in the form of a “beard”. The Usney genus is characterized by the presence in the center of thallus branches of a strong axial cylinder formed by a dense plexus of hyphae . Branches are usually with fibrils , less often without them. Apothecia is surrounded by a crown of fibrils.

All species of this genus are epiphytes on the bark and branches of trees , less commonly found on stones, fences, logs.
