Usnea ( lat. Usnea ) is a genus of the Parmelia family lichens , which includes about 300 species distributed in various climatic zones , but especially widely in the temperate forest zone.

Content
Biological Description
The usn thallus is yellowish-green, of various lengths, often up to 1-2 m, bushy or in the form of a “beard”. The Usney genus is characterized by the presence in the center of thallus branches of a strong axial cylinder formed by a dense plexus of hyphae . Branches are usually with fibrils , less often without them. Apothecia is surrounded by a crown of fibrils.
All species of this genus are epiphytes on the bark and branches of trees , less commonly found on stones, fences, logs.
Chemical Composition
Usnya in large quantities contains usnic acid specific for lichens, which has strong antibiotic properties.
