Flight Tasks
Initially, the main goal of the flight was to bring together and dock with the Agena-VI target. However, after the explosion of Agena at launch, an alternative plan was developed: a rapprochement with the manned Gemini-7 .
Flight
The launch is December 15, 1965 , at 8:37. Flight duration: 1 day 2 hours. The height of the orbit is 311.3 km. The ship made 16 turns around the Earth.
At the first attempt to start due to a sensor that had not worked properly, the computer turned off the launch vehicle engines immediately after switching on. Shirra, contrary to the rules, decided not to eject. The second (successful) attempt to start took place in three days.
After approaching Gemini-7, both ships made maneuvers for three turns, being at a distance of 90 m to 0.3 m from each other.
Landing - December 16, 1965. The ship splashed down at a distance of 12.9 km from the calculated point. The crew is picked up by the US aircraft carrier USS Wasp 66 minutes after landing.
