Ilya Lvovich Maiselis ( December 28, 1894 , Uman - December 23, 1978 , Moscow ) - Soviet chess player , chess theorist, historian and writer; translator. Member of the editorial board of the magazine “ 64. Drafts and Chess in a Work Club ” ( 1925 - 1930 ), executive secretary of the publication “Soviet Chess Chronicle” ( 1943 - 1946 ), published in English in Moscow under the auspices of the All-Union Society for Cultural Relations with the Organization (VOKS) .

The best results in the competition: the tournament of cities "B" ( 1924 ) - 1-2 place; Moscow Championship ( 1932 ) - 4th place. He also participated in the championships of Moscow 1924/1925 (9.5 out of 17, + 8-6 = 3, 8-9 places), 1927 (6.5 out of 15, 11-12 places), 1928 (5.5 out of 17, + 4-10 = 3, 15-16 places) [1] .
He is the author of a textbook on a chess game for young people, a number of works in the field of theory (endgame) and the history of chess. Translator of the Chess Game Textbook ( 1926 ) and the story How Victor Became a Chess Master ( 1973 ) Em. Lasker , books “Theory and Practice of the Endgame” ( 1928 ) by I. Berger , “My System” by A. Nimtsovich (1926-1928). In 1930, the 5th edition of this work was published.
