Goltug Nagara

Goltug Nagara ( azerb. Qoltuq nağara ) is an Azerbaijani folk percussion musical instrument . One of the most common percussion instruments in folk music of Azerbaijan .

Etymology

Translated, "Nagara" means "tapping," and "Goltug" means "axillary."

Description

Used in ensembles and orchestras. It is played with palms and fingers of both hands. (sometimes with two light sticks). During the game, such techniques as a slap, tremolo , trill and click are used.

Nagara, which has powerful sound dynamics, allows you to extract various timbre shades from it, and you can play it also in the open air. In traditional folklore ceremonies, in folk theatrical games, as well as in dances such as dzhangi, yalla and others, goltug nagara is used. Its body is made of walnut , apricot and other types of trees, and the membrane is made of sheep skin. Height 350-360 mm, diameter 300-310 mm.
