Ausmundur Sveinsson

Ausmundur Sveinsson (Isl. Ásmundur Sveinsson , born May 20, 1893 Komsstadir , Iceland - d. December 9, 1982 Reykjavik ) - Icelandic sculptor.

He received his art education at the Stockholm Academy of Fine Arts, under the direction of Karl Milles . A.Sweinsson is one of the first Icelandic sculptors to receive international recognition.

A.Sweinsson worked both in figurative and abstract sculpture. The main theme of his work is a reflection of the events of everyday life and modern technological achievements, as well as the mysterious world of Icelandic sagas (for example, a monument to Samund the Wise and the devil's seal near the building of the University of Iceland in Reykjavik).

One of the principles of modern art, the sculptor accepted the thesis that art should belong and find understanding not only among a group of selected connoisseurs, but also among a wide range of people. Therefore, he prefers to exhibit his works in various places of public life, accessible to everyone. So, in different parts of Reykjavik you can see his sculptures (" Carrying Water ", " Blacksmith "); in the city of Borgarnes - a monument to national hero Egil Skallagrimsson and his son.

His house in Reykjavik, designed by the sculptor himself, now houses the Asmundur Sveinsson Museum, and the sculpture garden, where admission is free, is located in the building’s garden.
