February uprising of 1934 in Austria
On February 12, 1934 , after a search at the headquarters of the Social Democrats in Linz, the Schutzbundis and militants of the banned left-wing organizations spontaneously raised a revolt in Linz , Vienna, and other Austrian cities against an increasingly shifting government.
However, Schutzbund’s speech was not supported by the SDPA, and after several days of fierce fighting, which became known as the Austrian Civil War , was suppressed. Many members of Schutzbund were forced to emigrate from the country or, like Ernst Fisher , switched to communist positions .
