The peculiarity of santur is that it is played with two light hammers - misrabs . Therefore, it is considered both a string and a percussion instrument.

Etymology and Origin
The name “santur”, according to historical data, comes from the Greek “psanterin”, or from the Greek “ψαλτήριον” - “ plucked instrument ” (from other Greek. Ψάλλω - “pinch strings”). The creation of santur is connected with the name of the Jewish prophet and king David , who, according to legend, was the creator of a number of musical instruments [1] .

Description
Santur is a trapezoidal wooden box, parts of which are made of selected walnut wood, while splitting and string holder are made of metal. Consists of a frame, upper and lower wooden covers. Metal strings. 4 strings of the same tuning pass through each stand. The lower deck of the instrument is a solid board with a thickness of 7 mm, and the upper one with a thickness of 5 mm.

In connection with the type of instrument settings, such names as “centur sol”, “centur la” and “centur si” are used in the performing environment.
The game of santur is taught at the Baku Art Gymnasium and at the Baku Academy of Music [2] .
