Personal Information
Jolyon is the eldest of two sons of the British race car driver Jonathan Palmer , after an active racing career actively working in the organization of various motorsport competitions in the UK and Europe. His younger brother's name is William.
Sports career
Jolyon first tried his hand at the wheel in 2004, having tried himself at the wheel of a MiniMax category card. The good speed, already demonstrated in the first combat circles on this technique, gradually allowed Palmer Jr. to raise his interest in such starts all to a higher level. A year later, with the support of his father, Jolyon tried himself in more serious races: in the T Cars junior body championship, where in several years he proved himself to be a fairly fast and stable pilot, having won several races. Seeing the successes of his son, Jonathan decided to try it in formula-type races, placing Jolion in the Formula Palmer Audi championship held by one of his companies. Here Palmer Jr. was also able to quickly reach the level of competitors in speed and stability, regularly winning races and finishing in podium positions; for the second season in such races, the Briton was able to fight with the leaders of the overall standings for most of the season, taking third place both in the main championship and in the autumn cup.
In 2009, performances at Formula Palmer Audi continued only on a limited timetable, and the main forces Jolyon and Jonathan sent to participate in the FIA Formula 2 series, also held with the participation of Palmer Sr. The first season of the new championship brought together a very strong team and even the most equal conditions for working with equipment did not allow Jolyon to quickly get used to the championship of a new level for him and he only once in 16 races of the season reached the points at the finish of the races. A year later, the level of pilots fell slightly, and Palmer Jr.βs increased stability allowed him to regularly fight for victories and only not very stable results at the end of the year, did not allow the Briton to win the title, losing 42 points to compatriot Dean Stoneman .
Jolion's level of progress was assessed by Jonathan at a sufficient level and in 2011 Palmer Sr. was able to arrange his son in GP2 , where he spent the next four seasons. Here, the Briton also did not show any outstanding results in the first races, but gradually accumulating experience with equipment at this level and regularly changing teams, he was able to start improving his results: in 2012 he began to regularly score points and won his first race, after another the year ended the season for the first time in Top10 for the first time, and in 2014 it finally grew up even before the fight for the title, [1] noticeably surpassing all competitors in stability and having won four races, he was able to arrange the title ahead of schedule for three starts before the end of the season. [2] Funding for the place of a combat pilot in Formula 1 could not be found, and the best that Palmer could find for his son was a test pilot first in Force India , [3] and then in Lotus . [four]
On October 24, during the US Grand Prix, the Lotus team announced that Palmer will become a combat pilot in 2016
Formula 1
He made his debut in the first race of the 2016 season, the Australian Grand Prix, where he showed 11 results. Until Malaysia, this result remained the best, and only in the 16th race he scored the first point for 10th place.
He had to wait for the next points scored for almost a year - just one stage before the next Malaysian Grand Prix in Singapore , he finished 6th and increased the number of points scored for his career by 9 times.
