The Aztec Ruins ( Aztec Ruins National Monument ) is a national monument located in the northwest of New Mexico in the United States , near the city of Aztec and northeast of Farmington , near the Animas River. The main value here is the buildings built in the Middle Ages by the pueblo people. Not far from it, to the south, there is the Solmon ruins park, where other structures of the ancient pueblo are represented, directly to the west of Bloomfield near the San Juan River.

The buildings date back to the 11th – 13th centuries . The erroneous name is due to the fact that 19th-century American settlers initially attributed these structures to the Aztecs , with whom the pueblo are only in very distant linguistic affinity. The name was fixed as traditional.
