History
Atletico Tucuman was founded on September 27, 1902 and is one of the oldest clubs in Argentina. He was a member of the elite division of Argentina in 1973 - 1981 , as well as in the 1984 season. The best performance of the team was in 1979, when Atletico Tucuman reached the semi-finals of the Nacional tournament.
In recent years, the team has performed at the third level in the structure of Argentina’s leagues. In the 2007/08 season, Atletico Tucuman finished first in Tornio Argentino A (one of two leagues in the third division) and was classified in Example B National for the next season. In the current 2008/09 season, the team confidently took the first place in the division and secured a direct ticket to the elite Argentine Division - Example. However, the team failed to gain a foothold in the elite, and since 2010 it has played again in Example B.
At the end of 2015, Atletico Tucuman became the champion of Examples B National and returned to Example.
The most important rival for Atletico Tucuman is another team from the same city, San Martin .
