Space western

Space Western (from the English Space Western ) is a genre of adventure science fiction , defined by the characteristic elements of a western transferred to a fantastic surroundings (in contrast to the science fiction western genre, which transfers fantastic elements to the surroundings of the Wild West ). Sometimes considered as a subgenre of space opera .

The action of cosmic westerns usually takes place in the distant future, on other planets. Usually represented by films and television, animated series, although there are also comic book series , books and video games .

As an independent genre originated in the 1930s. According to one version, the American magazine Astounding Science Fiction played an active role in the development of the genre. Its first editor, Harry Bates, directed authors to cross genres and transfer popular art trends into a fantastic setting.
