Overview
The album consists of recordings made during sessions at the American Sound studio in Memphis in January-February 1969 under the direction of Chips Moman; Presley has previously recorded exclusively at RCA Records and Hollywood studios. Moman introduced the soul color and completely updated the sound of Presley, who recorded albums with mediocre sound tracks one by one. It was the TV show on NBC (see “ Elvis (teleconcert) ”) that in the previous year Presley returned confidence in searching for a new music format. And although this time the new recordings didn’t have a musical revolution, critics often equate them with the freshness of sound to records on Sun Records [1] . The high quality of the material was confirmed by the success of both the album and the single “In the Ghetto” (3rd place). From the same sessions on American Sound were selected songs for Presley's next album - Back in Memphis (1969).
