Wilhelm Lanzky-Otto ( Dat. Wilhelm Lanzky-Otto ; January 30, 1909 , Copenhagen - April 13, 1991 ) - Danish horn player , pianist and music teacher , one of the most prominent representatives of the Scandinavian horn school.

Biography

Wilhelm Lanzki-Otto was born into a family of musicians in Copenhagen . His father Frederick Lansky-Otto was an organist , singer and vocal teacher, and his mother Anna was a pianist . Before choosing the horn as the main instrument, Lansky-Otto studied piano , organ and violin, and in 1928 even entered the Copenhagen Conservatory in piano. In 1934, in Paris, he took lessons from the famous pianist Robert Casadesus . Subsequently, he himself taught piano for some time at the Reykjavik Conservatory.

At the beginning of 1927, he began to practice on the horn under the guidance of the famous Danish horn player and teacher Hans Sørensen and made such successes that in two years he became the soloist of the Zealand Symphony Orchestra. Subsequently, he served as a soloist in such leading Scandinavian orchestras as the Danish National Symphony Orchestra , the Danish Royal Orchestra , the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra . From 1956 to 1967, Lansky-Otto was a soloist at the Royal Stockholm Symphony Orchestra . In 1967, he left the place of soloist, but continued to work in the orchestra until 1975 .

Wilhelm Lantsky-Otto achieved the greatest fame as one of the most prominent horn-educators of the 20th century . For many years, he taught the horn at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm . Among his students are Freudis Ree Vekre , Søren Hermansson , James MacDonald , Rolf Bengtsson and his son Ib Lansky-Otto . In 1978, Lansky-Otto was elected an honorary member of the International Horn Society .
