County (then Duchy) Berry - medieval feudal possession in France . During the reign of the Merovingians, it was part of the Duchy of Aquitaine . In 929, the king of France, Raul I, confiscated it from the Duke of Aquitaine and created the county of Bourges , directly sub-vassal to the French king. In 1101, the last Earl of Bourges sold the county rights to King Philip I , who joined him to the royal domain .

Duchy of Berry
In 1360, King John II the Good created the Duchy of Berry, on the territory of the historical region of Berry , which he singled out as an uplift to his third son, Jean Berry , uncle of the future King Charles VI the Mad . Jean died in 1416 , and the duchy returned to the royal domain. Further, it repeatedly stood out again in the upshot of the younger princes and princesses of France, and was also the widowed part of some queens. Some kings of France, before entering the throne, held the title of Duke of Berry.
