Datura leaf (trade name of the drug ; Lat. Folia Daturae stramonii ) is an anticholinergic drug.
General Information
Collected from the beginning of flowering to the end of fruiting and dried leaves of the herbaceous wild-growing and cultivated annual plant of Datura vulgaris ( Datura stramonium L.), fam. nightshade (Solanaceae). Contain hyoscyamine and other atropine alkaloids.
The amount of alkaloids should be at least 0.25%. With a content of more than 0.25%, the leaves are used in correspondingly smaller quantities. They have an antispasmodic effect. They are part of the anti-asthma collection.
Highest doses for adults: single 0.2 g daily 0.6 g
Datura oil (Oleum Stramonii).
Transparent oily liquid from yellow to yellow-green, a peculiar smell. It is used externally for rubbing with neuralgia, rheumatism. Included in the composition of linings for grinding (see methylsilicylate ).
