Biography

A native of Zelovo (a neighborhood of Sin). During the Second World War he worked as an electrician and did not think about football, he served in the army of the Yugoslav partisans . He also practiced ballet.

In 1946, Vladimir accidentally attended a training session for the split Hajduk : the goalkeepers didn’t train that day because of injuries, and club coach Jojo Matosic asked one of the spectators to stand in the goal. Vladimir volunteered. Matošić asked the players not to punch hard on goal. Although they in the excitement of training forgot about the instructions of the coach, but Beara coped with all the tasks. Impressed Matoshich invited him to become the goalkeeper of the team, and Vladimir agreed without delay [2] .

For Hajduk, Beara spent more than 300 games and won the Yugoslav Football Championship three times. In 1955, Beara moved to Red Star , with which he won 4 more championship titles and 2 Yugoslav Cups . He later played in West German clubs.

He played 59 matches for the Yugoslav national team; gained fame after a brilliant game against England at Highbury Stadium. Silver medalist of the 1952 Olympic Games , participant in the 1950 , 1954 , 1958 world championships.
