Story

Pretty Irina Kruchinina ( Izolda Izvitskaya ) is in her first year at a teacher training college. The teacher of the same institute, Konstantin Aleksandrovich Khokhlov ( Evgeny Samoilov ), is not indifferent to her and offers to go together in the summer to the Black Sea on the new Volga , which he plans to buy. Irina agrees with pleasure, but Khokhlov does not know how to drive a car, and Irina decides to enroll in a driving school herself. There she meets Nikolai Kukushkin ( Anatoly Kuznetsov ).

Young people feel mutual sympathy. Irina fails the exam in a driving school. Khokhlov recognizes Irina in love, but she responds with an annoyed refusal. On the same day, Kukushkin confesses her love to her; lovers until late at night ride on his Moskvich in Moscow and kiss.

Irina and Nikolai decide to register a marriage and immediately go to the Black Sea in their own cars with fellow driving schools, and play a wedding on the way. In the registry office, they learn that from the filing of an application to the registration of a marriage, the law should take at least a week. Without changing plans, the company sets off.

A non-alcoholic banquet is organized in honor of the engagement in the roadside café “Prival”. On the road, Irina and Nikolai meet the combine girl Nastya. She asks to toss her to MTS for the gear: “the wheat is crumbling,” “we'll be back in half an hour.” Irina and her friends get out of the car for a walk, and Nikolai carries the girl. Everything turns out to be not at all simple: the director’s signature is needed, the director rushes through the fields, night falls, the warehouse is closed, the watchman's key ...

While Nikolai is looking for a gear, the Biryukovs are driving Irina to a hotel, where the next wedding feast is due to take place. Evening comes, then night, - Nicholas is gone, Irina is nervous, the guests are exhausted from hunger. Zoya Denisovna constantly hints that Nikolai is delayed because of the girl. In the morning, Irina in desperation runs to the road, there she accidentally meets Khokhlov, who hired a driver and goes to the Crimea on the purchased Volga. Irina asks him to take her away. Meanwhile, Nikolai completed the search for the gear and continued on his way “to the Caucasus, ” where, in his opinion, Irina had gone.

They refuse to accommodate Irina in the Crimean hotel: it turns out that she left her passport with Nikolai at the registry office. Khokhlov is terrified: it turns out that he was trying to "take his wife away from her husband." Irina sleeps on the Black Sea. In the morning she learns that she is not in the Caucasus, but in the Crimea, and demands from Khokhlov to take her to the Caucasus. Nikolai, meanwhile, finds out that Irina "at the fork turned into the Crimea" and goes for her. Now Irina and Khokhlov are in the Caucasus, and Nikolai is in the Crimea. Irina decides to return to Moscow. Nikolai reappears in the Caucasus and decides to return to Moscow. Biryukov leaves his wife: “You are a gossip, a schemer, a bourgeois!”

On the road, Nikolai accidentally meets with Khokhlov. Irina gets into Nikolai’s car and, offended by each other, they continue on their way home to collect documents from the registry office.

They again meet the girl-combiner Nastya. Irina realizes that her suspicions were in vain, and Nastya admires Nikolai’s “golden character”.

The young are reconciled, and Irina presents with a laugh, as he will inform Khokhlov in the fall that she is now not Kruchinina, but Kukushkina.
