Daughters of the Rhine ( German Rheintöchter ) - three nymphs from the opera cycle " The Nibelung Ring " by Richard Wagner . Their names are Voglind, Velgund and Floschild, however, they usually act as a whole. In the “ Gold of the Rhine ” they keep a golden treasure resting on the bottom of the river. One of the Nibelungs - Alberich - tries in vain to win the love of the daughters of the Rhine: they slip out of his hands, taunting his clumsiness and ugliness. From their merry chatter, Alberich learns the secret of the treasure: he who forges a ring of Rhine gold will become the ruler of the world and the owner of countless riches [1] .
