Prize named after V. L. Komarov

The VL Komarov Prize is a prize established by the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1944 [1] for outstanding works in the field of botany : systematics , anatomy and morphology of plants , botanical geography and paleobotany . The award began in 1946 , after the USSR ceased to exist , the prize is awarded by the Russian Academy of Sciences .

The prize is named after Vladimir Leontyevich Komarov ( 1869 - 1945 ), an outstanding Russian (Soviet) botanist , systematic florist , geographer , and science organizer; corresponding member of the Imperial St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences ( 1914 ), full member ( 1920 ), vice-president ( 1930 - 1936 ) and president ( 1936 - 1945 ) of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

In accordance with the decision of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1959, which determined the basic principles for awarding prizes [2] , since 1957 the prize has been awarded once every three years. The next award is expected in 2020 .

The only scientist twice awarded this prize is Evgeny Petrovich Korovin (1891-1963).
