Leon Shtukel ( Slovenian. Leon Štukelj ; November 12, 1898 , Novo Mesto , Austria-Hungary - November 8, 1999 , Maribor , Slovenia ) - Yugoslav gymnast , the only representative of Yugoslavia who became the three-time Olympic champion, five-time champion of the world.

Biography
For the first time he selected for the world gymnastics championship in 1922 , following the results of the championship he became a three-time champion, winning gold medals in exercises on the rings, on the bar and on the parallel bars.
In 1924, at the Olympic Games in Paris, Stuckel won two gold medals, becoming the best in the absolute championship, as well as in the exercises on the crossbar.
At the 1926 World Cup, Leon won two more gold medals, thereby becoming a five-time world champion.
In 1928, at the Olympics in Amsterdam, he wins gold in ring exercises, also wins two bronze medals in the absolute championship and as part of the national team of Yugoslavia in the team championship.
At the 1932 Olympics , due to the high cost of flying to the United States , the Olympic team of Yugoslavia was represented by only one athlete - disco ball Velko Naranchich , who got to the games at his own expense.
Stukel approached the games of the 1936 Olympics at the age of 38, but this did not stop him from winning the sixth for himself, this time the silver Olympic award in ring exercises. At the end of the games, the athlete left the big sport.
After completing a sports career
After completing his career as an athlete, Leon Stukel went to law (he received his law degree in 1927 ), becoming a judge first in his native city of Novo Mesto , and later moving to Maribor . After the end of World War II, Stukel did not support the socialist regime of Yugoslavia, for which he was imprisoned for some time, but quickly released. Having lost all legal ranks, he worked as an assistant lawyer before retiring.
In 1996, he attended the opening ceremony of the Atlanta Summer Olympics as the oldest living Olympic champion. In addition, he participated in the award ceremonies of gymnasts at the games. In 1997 he was included in the International Hall of Gymnastic Glory . In 1998, its 100th anniversary was Slovenia's main national holiday. An outstanding athlete died in 1999 , not having lived 4 days before his 101st birthday.
