Biography
Riad Akhmedov was born on December 20, 1956 in Baku in an intelligent family. In 1972 he graduated from school number 134 in Baku. In 1976 he graduated with honors from the Law Faculty of Azerbaijan State University [1] . From 1976 to 1979 , Akhmedov worked as a laboratory assistant at the Institute of Forensic Expertise under the Ministry of Justice of the Azerbaijan USSR, from 1979 to 1980 - an adviser in the department of preparing draft laws and systematization of legislation of the Ministry of Justice of the Azerbaijan SSR, and from 1980 to 1981 - a senior adviser in the personnel department of the Ministry of Justice [2] .
In 1982 , he graduated from the KGB Higher School in Minsk and then returned to Baku and began working in the KGB intelligence department of the Azerbaijan SSR [1] . In 1984 , he attended courses at the Yu.V. Andropov Institute of the KGB of the USSR [3] . In 1988, he was awarded the medal “70 years of the Armed Forces of the USSR” for perfect service and activity in the security organs [2] .
In 1992, he became deputy head of the Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan [3] . With the beginning of the Karabakh conflict, Riad Akhmedov began to take an active part in the creation of the National Army of Azerbaijan. Since 1989, Akhmedov often traveled to Karabakh. Already during the war years, in 1991, Lt. Col. Akhmedov distinguished himself in battles for the village of Chaykend [1] .
In January 1992, Akhmedov created a special intelligence department, consisting of soldiers who went through the Afghan war . On January 22, 1992, Riad Akhmedov, together with his detachment, was sent to Shusha . On January 26, Akhmedov’s detachment received another task - assistance in clearing the Dashalty village, located on the Shusha – Lachin road, from the enemy. During this operation, “Dashalty” Riad Akhmedov went missing [1] [3] . At the time of the alleged death, he was married to Elmir Makhmudova, sister of the former Minister of National Security Eldar Makhmudov [3] . Akhmedov had two daughters [1] .
By the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 833 dated July 7, 1992, Akhmedov Riad Fikret oglu was awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan [1] .
Memory
- The name of Riad Akhmedov was called Baku secondary school No. 203 [1] .
- A memorial plaque was installed on the wall of the house in Baku in which Akhmedov lived.
