VizieR Catalog Service is an electronic database of astronomical objects owned by the Astronomical Data Center in Strasbourg .
The appearance of the database dates back to 1995 ; [1] it was integrated into other electronic services that existed by that time (such as SIMBAD and others) in order to provide access to information about astronomical objects to scientific communities around the world. In June 1997, the catalog interface was updated, based on the ASU protocol, common in some astronomical institutes. Over the next few years, the system went through several upgrades, several mirrors were created in different parts of the world, including in Moscow .
Information search in the database is possible by various parameters: both by the object's own name, and by the designations of all large astronomical catalogs and even by its own coordinates . It is also possible to install a separate VizieR search plugin in some browsers .
