Biography
He studied at the philological faculty of Kiev University (graduated in 1925), then - at the Kiev Higher Music and Drama Institute (conducting class of V. Berdyaev, graduated in 1928). After a short period of teaching in Kiev, he worked as a conductor in Tiraspol (1931–33), Donetsk (1933), Saratov (1934–37), Kharkov (1937–40), and Odessa (1940–41). While evacuating, he directed the Ukrainian SSR Symphony Orchestra and the Tajik Opera House. After the war, Klimov became the conductor of the Odessa Opera House and professor at the Odessa Conservatory , from 1948 to 1954 he was director of the Kiev Conservatory [1] . From 1954 to 1961 he headed the Kiev Opera and Ballet Theater , in 1961-1967 - the Kirov Theater in Leningrad.
Honored Artist of the Tajik SSR (1945) and Ukrainian SSR (1949).
The son of A.I. Klimov is a violinist, laureate of the First Tchaikovsky Competition Valery Klimov .
