Story
Nowadays, interest in nature suggests an interest in man and his impact on the planet.Quote from the movie |
The film is almost entirely composed of views of different places on Earth from a bird's-eye view. Voice-over tells about the ecological catastrophe threatening the planet, using the example of catastrophes unfolding now.
Shooting
Everything that we see in the film is based on the numbers that thousands of scientists and the UN have , so what is happening in the world inspires really great fears. [one]
Almost the entire film was shot from a helicopter on a Cineflex high-resolution camera .
For 18 months the film crew visited 53 countries of the world. However, in some countries, for example, in China and Saudi Arabia , the director was denied an aerial survey. In India, half of the footage was confiscated, and in Argentina, Arthus-Bertrand and his assistants had to spend a week in prison. [one]
On YouTube there is a separate video about the shooting process .
Premiere
The film premiered on June 5, 2009, on World Environment Day . The picture was simultaneously broadcast on the largest sites in 87 countries of the world in the format of an open free show.
In Russia
On June 5, 2009, at 20:00, the film was broadcast on large screens on Poklonnaya Hill and the Sparrow Hills embankment in Moscow , in the Central Park of Culture and Leisure in St. Petersburg , in the Green Theater in Sochi , on the Central Square in Anapa , on the Glory Square in Samara . Also, the film was shown on cable TV channels and Ocean TV. On June 6, on the Day of the Ecologist , in Moscow at 14:00 and 20:00 on the Small Sports Arena on the territory of the Luzhniki sports complex , the film was shown again [1] .
Movie Versions
The film was released in several languages: Arabic , English , French , German , Dutch , Portuguese , Russian , Spanish and Kurdish . The off-screen text in the original version for cinemas was read by Jacques Gamblen , and in the TV version - Arthus-Bertrand himself . The Russian dubbing was performed by the presenter of the radio station “ Silver Rain ” by Alex Dubas [2] .
House
The film is commented on as a historical review and agitates for the protection of nature . The film version for the Internet, TV and DVD release is 1:29:39, the cinema version is 1:58:25.
House. Travel History
This is a “film about the film,” he comments from the first person as the director’s personal observations, his “testimony”: “I considered the footage unique and it was very unfortunate that he was not suitable for the film“ The House ”. Thus, it includes frames that were not in the original film. Duration - 1:46:48, and there is also an extended directorial version with a duration of 1:52:58. [3]
Inaccuracies in the film
In the film “Home. Travel History " talk about Kazakhstan (Kazakhstan). It mentions that in this country schools are closed and children are sent to work in cotton fields. This is not entirely accurate.
Toward the end of the same film, the author says: "When I saw the Wailing Wall - I just have no words." In fact, we are talking about the border building of Israel separating Israel from the West Bank (historical Judea and Samaria) - the Israeli separation barrier, although the Wailing Wall was shown several frames earlier in a different context. The Wailing Wall is like an allegory here (many cry because of the existence of a separation fence).
Copyrights
The film is distributed free of charge. The owners of the rights to the film and its distribution (companies PPR Group and EuropaCorp ) also agreed not to use it for commercial purposes. “The profit that we expect from the film is not calculated in dollars or euros, but in the number of people who watch the film and think about it,” said Arthus-Bertrand . Criticism
Choosing a premiere date
In France, the release of the film two days before the elections to the European Parliament was criticized by some politicians who believed that the film contributed to the success of the Ecological Party of Europe ( fr. Europe Écologie ) [4] [5] . It was answered that the date of the film was planned long ago and was timed to World Environment Day , and public opinion polls showed that the Greens rating reached 15% before the premiere. [6]
The newspaper Le Monde also noted that the Minister for the Environment J.-L. Borloo shortly before the elections to the European Parliament sent letters to the prefects of the regions demanding to trace the distribution of the film, “calling for environmental awareness and raising the topic of global global warming,” and attached a copy of the film [7] .
Content and financial issue
Some criticize the film because it contains facts that are inaccurate or exaggerated [8] . In addition, funding, mainly from Pinault-Printemps-Redoute , causes some doubt in the message of the film [9] [10] and in the nature of the relationship between Arthus-Bertrand and his association GoodPlanet and its sponsors. [eleven]
Copyright issue
In the evening after the premiere of the film, Jan Arthus-Bertrand announced on channel France 2 : “No restrictions, no copyrights, show the movie to as many people as possible.” That is, in this case, the refusal of the rights of authorship is stipulated, therefore, the specified work on copyright protection does not apply to this work [12] [13] .
